The Founders
ROBERT L. BAUM
In Memory
Robert’s experience in the industry encompassed nearly 50 years. His roles evolved over the years beginning with laborer, bricklayer, foreman, superintendent, field operations manager to his latest position as co-founder and President of Sun Valley Construction. Robert offered his expertise of work in various capacities on projects and enabled a real world approach to solving complicated problems.
He maintained an enviable reputation by consistently providing clients with high quality services and by meeting project schedules and budgets. Robert was well respected in the industry for his honesty, integrity, professionalism, and relentless work ethic. Quality construction and satisfaction were Robert’s paramount goals.
KENNETH L. NESSLER, JR.
VICE PRESIDENT
Ken’s vast experience and knowledge of the masonry industry has facilitated Sun Valley Masonry in securing some of the largest landmark projects in the Southwest. He began his career in 1965 as an apprentice bricklayer. Through the years he gained invaluable working knowledge as a foreman, superintendent and field operations manager. In 1977, Ken moved his family to Phoenix and co-founded, along with partner Robert Baum, Sun Valley Masonry.
Today, colleagues and clients alike seek Ken’s expertise in navigating through some of the most complex construction projects to be built. Fostering employee personal growth and mentoring are of significant importance to Ken.
The Leaders
TODD A. BAUM
President
Todd Baum grew up in the family business working for Sun Valley as a laborer throughout his high school years. After graduating from high school, he became an apprentice bricklayer under some of the best mechanics in Arizona. In 1992 he became a journeyman and ran work under the tutelage of his father, Robert “Ducky” Baum. Todd was fortunate to work with his father for many decades as Robert had a strong sense of succession planning. Todd is a compassionate, hard-working, and effective leader and has built a strong foundation for Sun Valley.
TODD NESSLER
Vice President
Todd has been with Sun Valley since it’s inception. He grew up working for the family company during the summer and dedicated himself full-time in 1990, the year that he graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Throughout Todd’s 33 years in the industry, he has worked on iconic Arizona projects such as Chase Field, Talking Stick Resort Area (formerly US Airways Center) and Cardinals Stadium. Associations that he belongs to include the Arizona Masonry Guild, the Arizona Mason Contractors Association and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).
Todd values faith, family, his beautiful wife and enjoys scuba diving, flying, skiing, kayaking and fitness training.
DAVID R. BEER
CFO/Treasurer
In 1994, David Beer started at Sun Valley Masonry as a controller and has since climbed to the top as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
David has many great accomplishments and experiences under his belt that make him an indispensable asset to our team, one of the first notable accomplishment being his role as CGMA’s Valley of the Sun Chapter President in 2002. In 2005, he was the sole recipient of CFMA’s “Best Under the Sun” General Member Award, and in 2008, was nominated as a finalist for FEI’s CFO of the Year Award. In 2010, he became the ASA AZ Chapter President working on behalf of subcontractors in the construction industry. David was nominated in 2011 as a finalist for AZRE’s People to Know in Real Estate.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance degree from Arizona State University and is a current member of the CFMA Construction Financial Management Association and the ASA-American Subcontractor Association. In his free time, he enjoys sports and riding his motorcycle.
DAVID PELOKE
VICE PRESIDENT, OPERATIONS
David joined Sun Valley in 2014 and brings over two decades of experience. He is a senior project manager that specializes in operations excellence and complex design builds, and is the chairman of MCAA’s South of 40.
In the past, David has held positions such as CEO, president, director, chief operating officer, vice president of operations, general manager and senior estimator for other construction related companies. When he isn’t working on demanding, fast-paced projects, he’s either spending time with his three daughters, watching sports, playing golf or enjoying the great outdoors.
CHUCK PAXSON
VICE PRESIDENT, Concrete Division
Charles (Chuck) joined Sun Valley is 2011 as an Operations Manager and Executive Director. With over three decades of experience in Arizona’s construction industry, Chuck is a total professional when it comes to the project planning, scheduling and management of structural work in retail, sports, healthcare, education, multifamily and entertainment industries. All of his project have been timely, quality, cost effective and safe.
Chuck has special training in 3D profiling and FMI leadership, and is a certified NCCER teacher and TCA Supervisor with OSHA 30 training.
He has experience with tilt structures, parking garages, multi-level commercial buildings, shopping malls, hotels and schools. His notable Arizona projects include the Goodyear Ball Park Stadium, Dodge Theater, the University of Arizona Medical Research Building, Sedona’s Hyatt Resort, the Harkins Theater at Temple Marketplace, Tucson’s Federal Prison, Anthem’s Boulder Creek High School and the Brickyard in Tempe, among others.
Chuck is a marathon running, sports enthusiast who enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, camping and woodworking.
JOSH RAUSCHER
Oklahoma Regional Manager
As the regional manager, Josh has consistently delivered outstanding work for Sun Valley since 2011. In 1995 Josh worked as a union laborer and operator, and then completed a three-year apprentice program at the International Masonry Institute in 1997. In the early 2000’s, he worked as a union foreman at Journeymen Masonry before becoming the assistant branch manager at Mid-Continental Masonry. He also completed a two-year construction management program at Villanova University. Collectively, he has over twenty years of experience in the industry.
Josh has worked in Michigan, Florida, Kansas and Oklahoma, and tributes his experiences across the country to his diverse knowledge of the industry, which is pivotal in every project he works on. He is proud to have “started from the bottom,” and learned every aspect of the industry. In his free time, he enjoys heading north to his family’s lake spot or playing with his children in their backyard.
